About the Role

The Project Grid Connections Manager will play a key role in leading the grid connection process across all stages of project development, construction, commissioning and operation for renewable energy and energy storage projects. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this position requires a blend of stakeholders’ management and technical knowledge in grid connection processes. The role suits professionals at a mid to Senior/Principal level who are eager to contribute to complex projects and continuously grow their expertise in this field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all grid connection activities supporting the team across project lifecycles, including development, construction and commissioning.
  • Track milestones, manage schedules, and maintain clear communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Involve and advise on grid aspects of project proposals and evaluation including scoping any due diligence work required by grid consultants to assist in site selection process, including NSP requirements.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to leadership team on grid connection progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Act as the key point of contact for NSPs, AEMO, consultants, and OEMs, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment and strong relationship.
  • Oversee the work of consultants performing power system studies, modelling, and compliance-related tasks.
  • Negotiate and manage grid connection agreements with NSPs and other stakeholders to achieve favourable project outcomes including developing and proposing strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of GPS ensuring accuracy and timely approvals.
  • Provide input on power system studies, including load flow, dynamic modelling and fault level analysis.
  • Ensure technical solutions are aligned with the National Electricity Rules (NER) and other relevant standards.
  • Work and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including assisting internal teams and responding to any grid related technical requests.
  • Develop and manage the GPS Compliance Plan for our operational projects, including developing and proposing a plan, ensuring these are drafted and can be practically used by the O&M teams. You will be involved, together with the O&M team members, in carrying out the GPS compliance testing.
  • Provide support to the operation and maintenance of the plants by providing grid expertise throughout the life of the plant including assisting with resolving any non-compliances and proposing any upgrades or changes to the sites.
  • Monitor and address potential technical risks during the connection process.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes and emerging technologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, proactively seeking opportunities to improve business and technical outcomes.

Skills and Experience

  • A degree in electrical engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in grid connections process.
  • Strong understanding of grid connection process, including GPS compliance, power system modelling, and technical evaluations for utility-scale renewable energy or energy storage projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of power system modelling and tools (e.g. PSSE/PSCAD).
  • Knowledge of National Electricity Rules (NER), AEMO registration processes, and NSP requirements.
  • Experience managing grid consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering grid connection processes for renewable energy or energy storage projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non- technical stakeholders.
  • Skilled in negotiation and relationship management with external parties such as NSPs and AEMO.
  • Eagerness to learn new tools, processes and technologies in the renewable energy and grid connection space.
  • A proactive approach to solving problems and improving project outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to confidently interact with peers, external parties and management
