Glenrowan West Solar Farm – Fully Operational!

Glenrowan West Solar Farm, Partial Aerial.

Glenrowan West Solar Farm has now completed its construction and commissioning, with 110MW-AC of clean, renewable energy now supplying Australian homes and businesses! The solar farm is located in the town of Glenrowan West, Victoria, approximately 2.5hr North of Melbourne.

The primary construction phase of the project occurred from March 2020 to April 2021. The project has now progressed into the post-construction phase, with punch list remediation ongoing.

WIRSOL is proud to have provided Project Management for the acquisition, contract negotiations and construction of Glenrowan West Solar Farm, and looks forward to continuing at the site through provision of Asset Management and Operations and Maintenance services.

With construction finished, the site has also become home to a sizeable flock of sheep, which are there to help manage the vegetation whilst fulfilling their previous agricultural roles for local farmers. The use of sheep to maintain vegetation mean that significantly less mowing and spraying is required, thus reducing both carbon emissions and herbicide use, while allowing land management to occur in a sustainable manner. This forms part of WIRSOL’s ongoing commitment to sustainable agri-solar practices which are being implemented on several solar farms within our portfolio and provide an ideal outcome for the power plant, local farmers and the environment as a whole.

Some key information about the project:

  • Construction time: 13 months
  • EPC: Signal Energy Australia
  • Employment: 350+ people were employed during the peak of construction. The site hosts two local full time staff, and will employ numerous local tradespersons, workers and suppliers as required.
  • DC capacity: 148.9MW-DC. 373,248 x Jinko 395/400W Cheetah PV modules.
  • AC capacity: 132MW-AC. 48x 2.75MW SMA Sunny Central inverters.
  • Grid export limit: 110MW-AC
  • Tracker system: 4,905 x Nextracker Horizon PV mounting rows
  • Estimated annual production 265GWh, which is the equivalent energy use of 41,000  households. This clean energy should save an annual 315,000TCO2e from entering the atmosphere.
