What You Will Be Doing:
As a Plant Manager, you will oversee the operation, performance, and maintenance of a portfolio of utility-scale solar PV plants located throughout Australia. Based at the company’s headquarters, this leadership role involves frequent travel to supervise and support field teams and ensure optimal plant performance. The Plant Manager will be accountable for the financial, technical, and operational success of the sites while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and fulfilling all contractual obligations outlined in the O&M contract.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of the O&M Department this position will be accountable for the following tasks:
- Manage and lead field teams (internal and external personnel) to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the assigned plants.
- Develop and implement strategies to maximise plant performance and availability by improving efficiency and reducing downtime in line with contractual obligations.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate O&M activities to meet operational requirements.
- Regular monitoring of plant performance, analyse data and trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all operations adhere to WHS standards, environmental regulations, and relevant energy sector compliance frameworks.
- Act as the primary point of contact for plant-related matters with customers, asset managers, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate with the control room and support teams to optimise plant operations and minimise downtime, including occasional after-hours support.
- Oversee accurate and timely reporting of operational, maintenance, and performance data.
- Manage plant budgets, cost control, procurement activities, and financial forecasting.
- Supervise contractors, suppliers, and service providers to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality delivery of services.
- Ensure effective management of work orders, inventory, warranty claims, documentation, operational records and reports.
- Support technical issue resolution, including equipment performance, warranties, and liaison with OEMs and suppliers.
- Identify, estimate and deliver additional works, retrofits, and optimisation opportunities.
- Conduct regular site visits to verify site safety, performance, maintenance quality, and team effectiveness.
- Ensure availability of resources, materials, spares, and technical support for ongoing operations.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, including utilities (AEMO/NSPs), authorities, landowners, and local communities.
- Support HV operations, including switching coordination where required.
- Promote a strong safety culture, including incident review, inductions, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in on-call and rostered weekend/holiday support as required.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Relevant technical or engineering degree (electrical preferred).
- 2–3+ years’ experience in utility-scale solar PV operations or similar infrastructure/energy assets.
- Experience and understanding of renewable energy power plants, operations and maintenance, and WHS&E compliance.
- Solid experience in managing technical teams and contractors.
- Experience working with network service providers and regulatory bodies in the industry.
- Strong understanding of contracts and service agreements (O&M, grid connection, service providers).
- Knowledge of grid connection requirements, HV operations, and switching procedures.
- Financial awareness, including budgeting, procurement, and cost control.
- Experience with SCADA, CMMS, or asset monitoring systems (desirable).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
- Valid driver’s licence.
